The hundred year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared is a hilarious adventure story when a centenarian abandons his old folk’s home, on his hundredth birthday, in search of adventure. Along his explosive journey he meets, murders and steals from lots of people. Allan Karlsson (the centenarian) tells the story of his life, jumping from past to present each chapter. There is a range of great characters with a variety of unique personalities. He travels the world living through multiple wars and meeting several historical figures. Overall I would recommend this to anybody who needs a book with advanced vocabulary but still wants a story that is action packed and comical.

Written and illustrated by Liz Pichon, the Tom Gates series is one of the best series of diaries to date and is currently rivalling hits like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid collection, it has won multiple awards and multiple reviews across the board.
The first entry of the series (the brilliant world of tom gates) was the first book that Tom Gates starred in. The story goes like this: Tom Gates, a tween-ager, lives with his family in a town called Oakfield. during this diary Tom and his friend Derrick are going back to school for they're first day back at school. This is the start of the new term for them and they are hoping this term goes well. After their depressing first day at school they find out that they're favourite band DUDE3 are coming to Oakfield on the next tour that they start. With the excitement growing Tom and Derrick discuss about multiple things like the new band they are making called DOGZOMBIES, pranks on Tom's grumpy sister Delia and if they are going to try and go to the concert coming soon. As time passes by Tom is starting to have mixed feelings about his new term. Back at school, incidents like the school photo problems have put him in a bad mood and to top it off he has been moved next to his so-called-rival Marcus (moany) Meldrew - a kid the same age as him who will stop at nothing to annoy Tom but isn't really much of a problem, possibly someone who will do a campaign on uniforms, but that's about it. Fortunately Tom manages to convince his dad his other friend Amy and derrick's dad to go to the concert. But unfortunately Derrick's new dog rooster eats up the tickets and Tom and his dad are the only ones left to not be at the concert. But fortunately as Tom's teacher is a friend of DUDE3's manager allows Tom and his dad to see the concert after all. This book would be recommended for kids of 10-15 and I think it would be perfect for anyone who likes this style of book. |
